Joe is a resident of Portland, Maine and is a practicing architect as well as painter. Since graduation with a BFA from RISD in the early 80’s, he has continued to paint in oils, acrylics and watercolors. Landscapes figure prominently, but the works shown here reflect a bit of a shift. They are focused on birds as a dynamic subject contrasted with human elements. The energy and movement of birds evokes such ideas as freedom, release, capture and joy. The possibilities are endless.
After graduation from RISD, Joe worked in Newport Rhode Island for a few years. He has been a Maine resident since 1986 and is a partner at Whipple - Callender Architects in Portland. Joe has been active with the boards of The Friends of Evergreen Cemetery and the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland, where his art is also hung. He intends to ski and bike as long as he can.
