Lorraine Nam cuts, slashes, and dissects paper to create new visual pieces that focus on form and positive and negative space.
With my artist book, I strive to transcend the book's original purpose as a source of information into a sculptural piece with new meaning by "destroying" the book form. Old books hold a sense of history and a change in ownership that becomes integral to the object. This fragile quality of the book is maintained and perserved in the artist book even though it has been physically destroyed.
Based in Brooklyn, Lorraine is a book artist as well as a cut paper artist available for advertising and editorial work and for commissions nationwide. Books and stories have always been integral to her work and a preservation of history and culture become apparent in her pieces.
