ABOUT THE EXHIBITION Portsmouth, NH – June 28, 2013 - Drift Contemporary Art Gallery, located at the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion historic site in Portsmouth, NH will hold an opening reception on Friday, July 12th from 5-8pm for ‘Portraits in Contemporary Photography | Selections from a Series.' This unparalleled exhibition of contemporary photography, curated by Drift Gallery Director, Ali Goodwin, features selections from local, national and international photographers. Included in the exhibition are selections from This is My Body by 2013 PDN Curator Award winner, Noah David Bau, thirty-two images from PDN Magazine’s 2013 Annual winner Susan A. Barnett’s series Not In Your Face, photographs from the 2013 Center Award winner Jennifer McClure’s series Music From a Farther Room, Sony World Photography Award Winner Nicol Vizioli’s An Opening Song and Shadows on Parade, and new works from the Wallportraits series by New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s 2012 Artist Advancement Grant winner, Bear Kirkpatrick. The Main Gallery will also include selections from Cig Harvey’s You Look At Me Like An Emergency, Vincent Glielmi’s The Con, exhibition curator Ali Goodwin’s Circo Madagascar, Nancy Grace Horton’s Ms. Behavior, Asia Kepka’s Bridget and I, and Joseph D. R. OLeary’s Of Beards and Men. The Loft showcases photographer Caleb Cole, the 2013 Hearst 8x10 Biennial Winner and his series, ‘Other People’s Clothes.’ The Kolb Memorial Gallery will hold an exceptional collection of family portraits by photographer Sally Mann and a Video Portrait of artist Zhang Huan by the world’s foremost vanguard 'theater artist,' Robert Wilson. “I am honored to be hosting such an incredible group of photographers at Drift Gallery,” says Goodwin. “These artists are setting a quick and powerful pace in the contemporary art world right now. To have them all together in one exhibition is an astounding achievement and an unprecedented event for the seacoast arts community. We are extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to offer art enthusiasts and collectors this caliber of work in such a beautiful and accessible location.“ The exhibition runs July 12th - August 18th, 2013. Gallery hours are Wednesday – Saturday 10-5pm, Sunday 12-4pm. It is free and open to the public. All works are available for purchase. In addition to rotating exhibitions throughout summer and fall, Drift Gallery, offers art classes for children and adults, workshops, special events, plein air painting, and is available for private functions.
