I’m interested in the borders between abstraction and representation. It is the fleeting moment in time, the essence of a place, the heart of a memory that attracts me, that invites me to capture it in color, form, paint. I think of my paintings like brief visual poems—nonlinear, nonnarrative—that express interior emotional states and invite others to share in the experience.
Yet the end results are never predetermined. Put on paint. Take it away. I respond to what the canvas offers up during the process. It’s in conversation with the paint that I come to understand what I want to say.
