Kristin Texeira : Paintings
I paint to provide proof—for myself and others—of existing in certain moments in time. I translate the essence of moments through color by mixing up the poetics of people and places. This process preserves memories as tangible "maps."
The structure of my paintings is usually based on a specific memory. This results in and abstract image derived from the fading moment. For the “Stained-Glass Memories” series I took a different approach. Each painting echoes elements of stained-glass windows from a bridal chapel in the medieval village Léhon, France. I spent a month there during a residency and was taken by the organic beauty of the hand-ironed patterns that highlighted the majestic landscape outside.
For this series I decided to combine elements of the pattern with color palettes from “Life Nature” books that had accompanied me during my stay in Léhon. I was able to compose a memory that I believe to be more scientific than paintings I have done in the past. This series is an experiment using two controlled variables of the preexisting grid and a limited color palette to see what I could produce when I had limited access to my vast and ever-changing memory bank
Current Exhibition: RESONANCE, April 26 - June 7th, 2014
